Verdict

I guess this could be viewed as to what your personal driver / chauffeur will be getting rather than yourself. If you’re concerned about how fast a passenger you can be when you need to rush to that meeting or airport, don’t be.

Performance-wise, this is pretty much the same as the XJ’s smaller brother, the XFR.  The straight line performance of this car is still up there, and for something classed as a luxo-barge, it’s a barge that has more power than the Aston Martin Rapide and does 0 – 62mph in 4.4secs. If you check out the video at the bottom, the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 from the XFR, XJ Supersport and upcoming XJR should put into perspective of how this car performs against a Merc S65 AMG with 612bhp (100bhp+ more) – Probably the result of both the lighter aluminium construction and lack of weight from extra tech!

For the rest of the time though, the engine’s torque means you can waft with just your foot resting on the accelerator. Just a slight flex of the throttle will see you blast past the other self-driving peasants – although I’m not sure how much Lambrini that inevitably spills at the same time…? At least the high shoulder line will hide that potential embarrassment…

Jaguar XJ Supersport Vs Maserati Quattroporte Vs Mercedes S65  AMG

Despite the Maserati being slower as shown below, it does make a hell of a noise. And even though the interior is by far the worse of the three, that’ll be for my theoretical personal driver to deal with!

(Tune to Race 5, 5:00 mins in for all three)
