FirstDrive: Vauxhall Astra 1.6i VVT Exclusiv 5dr – Intro

The Mk5 Astra has a fond place in people’s memories after it was such a departure from the staid, saloon-esque shaped Mk4. This latest Mk6 model builds on the last gen’s appeal that won many new fans, but improves on the refinement, cabin quality and driving experience.

As ever, there are a huge range of engines and trim levels available, although those wanting a three-door model will have waited longer before joining the range later as a standalone Scirocco rival. If anything, one of the best-selling cars in the UK should have just gotten better, and not just the police will appreciate that with their panda cars.

We’ve got the base-spec Exclusiv model, which won’t only minimise our distraction from the toys on the flagship ones, but hopefully allows the fundamental character to shine through.
